SUMMARY
The DIRECTV Residential Experience (DRE) covers a hotel from the front desk to the room and complicated to update. Hoteliers are seeking a simpler scalable and modular solution.
Chief Accomplishments:
- Adapted an existing framework to accommodate the unique deployment
- Created a full working prototype to promote the product at a major trade show.
- Introduced a new area of revenue for the AT&T entertainment business.
RESEARCH
We planed out the objectives of a study on guest behaviors and expectations, results of our Unstructured Interview were as follows:
- Guests would like to use their own app accounts.
- Guests want the at-home TV experience, especially the Guide.
- Engaged viewing patterns for hotels may differ from those at home.
- Guests would like a more engaging hotel TV experience.
- Guests spend on average 2-3 hours engaged with TV.
- Ability to check the weather is important
TESTING
Even with challenging deadlines, we wanted to ensure that the product passed through our internal testing with the research team. The prototype was rebuilt based on the test script. We recruited a group of participants based on familiarity with hotel TVs.
The finding were resoundingly positive and included the following insights:
- Participants generally loved the interface
- The apps and interaction were noticeable and useful
- Time and weather display was valued
- Immediate need for the guide to see content offerings
